Scholarships

MRID Scholarships are awarded yearly on June 30. 

Scholarships OPEN on January 1 and CLOSE on June 15.

Pioneer Education Scholarship - $500

This scholarship was created to promote the field of interpreting, and to foster the growth and development of Deaf and hearing interpreters in Minnesota. This scholarship is intended to aid a Deaf or hearing student/interpreter with the cost of their training or education towards becoming a certified interpreter. 

EXAMPLES INCLUDE: CDI training, tuition assistance for an associates or bachelor's degree level interpreter training program, tuition assistance for a bachelor's degree to sit for an RID certification exam, etc. This list is not exhaustive; if you're unsure if your intended education or program qualifies, please email scholarships@mrid.org. 

CRITERIA:

  • Current member of MRID.


Pioneer Interpreter of Color Education Scholarship - $500

This scholarship was created to promote the field of interpreting, and to foster the growth and development of Deaf and hearing interpreters of color in Minnesota. This scholarship is intended to aid a Deaf or hearing student/interpreter of color with the cost of their training or education towards becoming a certified interpreter. 

EXAMPLES INCLUDE: CDI training, tuition assistance for an associates or bachelor's degree level interpreter training program, tuition assistance for a bachelor's degree to sit for an RID certification exam, etc. This list is not exhaustive; if you're unsure if your intended education or program qualifies, please email scholarships@mrid.org.

  • Current member of MRID, and
  • Interpreter or student of color.


Certification Scholarship - $350

This scholarship was created to grow the number of certified interpreters in Minnesota. This scholarship is intended to aid a Deaf or hearing interpreter with the cost of exams for the National Interpreter Certification (NIC), Certified Deaf Interpreter Certification (CDI), or Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA). 

CRITERIA:

  • Current member of MRID.


Interpreter of Color Certification Scholarship - $350

This scholarship was created to grow the number of certified interpreters of color in Minnesota. This scholarship is intended to aid a Deaf or hearing interpreter of color with the cost of exams for the National Interpreter Certification (NIC), Certified Deaf Interpreter Certification (CDI), or Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA). 

CRITERIA:

  • Current member of MRID, and
  • Interpreter of color.


Mary Burnes Mentorship Scholarship - $200

This scholarship was created to honor Mary Burnes and her passion for creating mentoring opportunities that allow interpreters to grow and improve their skills. Mary believed that we are better when we collaborate. Scholarship funds will help with the cost of hiring a mentor. 

CRITERIA:

  • Current member of MRID.


Stephen Medlicott Professional Development Scholarship - $200

This scholarship was created to honor Stephen Medlicott and his many years of service to MRID planning MRID conferences, events, and Camp ASL. This scholarship is intended to aid a Deaf or hearing interpreter with the cost of professional development. 
EXAMPLES INCLUDE: conferences, workshops, webinars, Camp ASL, and Higher Ed. This list is not exhaustive. If you are unsure if your professional development activity qualifies, please contact the scholarships committee at scholarships@mrid.org.
